On the weekend of April 21-22 the southeastern region of the Atlantic-Pacific Tang Soo Do Federation had its spring cycle Dan Shim Sa (Black Belt test) and review, as well as its annual championships in Cleveland GA. Over 50 Black Belts and Cho Dan Bo (Black Belt Candidates) tested or reviewed on Friday night April 21st and then on Saturday the weekend continued with our regional championships and finished up with a great dinner to celebrate.

Karate World in Buford Georgia hosted the event.  The black belt test opened with the announcement of the high scores on the written test.  Both of the high scores were from Karate World.  For the adults it was Joe Clark and for the children the high score went to Kate Sandberg.
The Black Belt test was quite challenging as it always is. Of particular note were the two best of test winners which were for the children Jossam Talde of Chandler’s Family Martial Arts Academy and for the Adults Aaron Lawrence of Central Alabama Martial Arts Academy .  Congratulations!!
The tournament took place the following morning and started at 8 am sharp with a judges meeting. Black belt competition which started at 9 am was completed before many of the color belt competitors arrived so that everyone could witness the awarding of the championship cups. The women’s cup went to Kayla Sandberg of Karate World of Buford, Georgia and the men’s cup was awarded to Alexander Watson-Jones, also of Karate World of Buford.  Following this were black belt presentations for all candidates who had successfully completed their six (6) month probationary period.   Master Michael Jett received his full Yuk Dan certification and Master's Allister Akong, Laura Lee Sandberg and David Watson-Jones all received their full certification for Sah Dan Master's certifications.  Finally, we were all moved to witness the promotion of Sister Kathleen Navarra and Mr. Chris Watson to Master instructor.  It is always very emotional and motivating to see new master ranks awarded.
The tournament lasted into the early evening with everyone giving their best. All of the students performed admirably. Later that evening there was a victory dinner for all who wanted to attend the Troll house in Helen GA. It was such a big crowd that we overfilled our room and bled over into the rest of the restaurant.  Later we finished up the events with a short leadership meeting with all Masters and school owners near the river.
It was a great time with our APTSDF friends and family.
